Restoring the start menu in Windows 8

Windows-Start-Menu

As you might have heard, Microsoft removed the conventional Start menu from Windows 8.

If you you’d like your start menu back in Windows 8, here is a simple way to get it back.

You have to edit the Windows Registry to enable the old Start menu in Windows 8.

Step 1: Open Run dialog (use Windows + R), type regedit.exe and then hit Enter key to launch Registry Editor.

Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer

Step 3: In the right pane, double-click on the entry named RPEnabled and change its value from 1 to 0 to enable the good old Start menu back in Windows 8.

That’s it.

To disable the old Start menu, simply change the value of RPEnabled key to 1.

Note that when you enable the old Start menu, the new Metro Start button goes invisible. That is, the old Start orb replaces the new Metro Start button.
