Microsoft announced today that customers have downloaded more than 1 million copies of the Windows 8 Consumer Preview in its first day of availability.

“One day later…one million downloads of the consumer preview,” said Microsoft in a tweet this morning from its Building Windows 8 Twitter account.

In early December 2011, Microsoft claimed that more than 3 million copies of the Windows 8 Developer Preview had been downloaded in the previous seven-and-a-half weeks.

At this pace, the Windows 8 Consumer Preview should pass the 3 million download mark by the end of the weekend.

Now I have my opinion but this site is really about you.

One million seems  a bit off the projection, but then the download system could not handle that with ease, For me it seemed to take forever to get both 32 bit and 64 bit packages, with several attempts on the 3gb+ 64 bit. if every one did as I did and downloaded both versions that number is cut by half, probably less than expected. Now if I can just create the machine to take best advantage of the release….
    Thanks

    Wow!!

I found the download and install process easily manageable. The only glitch was the original product number released by Microsoft was incorrect. Also, my AMD driver disk wouldn’t load due to not recognising the operating system. However this was rectified by running Disk Management, selecting the driver which needed updating and accessing  the motherboard disk that way. Problem solved. Having already tried the Developers Preview it was pleasing to see the inclusion of the Windows Media Center.

Thanks, I’m having the same problem with my MB drivers. Windows 8 insists using a generic Microsoft graphics driver instead of the proper nVidea driver. I’ll give this a try.

My Download (AMD64) was very fast, the installation was also very quick and hassle free. This was my first experience with Win8 and after about 30mins of clicking around to find where stuff was, I was comfortable with network streaming, Installing apps, (had a short Vid’ chat on Skype). I am predominately a Linux user, so probably a bit biased :), but I have so far, had a very good experience with Win8.

After trying windows 8 consumer preview for 24 hours I ended up reverting back to windows 7.
I found the start interface did not allow access to certain progs that are part of windows 7..games for example!
I do like the structure  of the screens but found it lacking in comunication with what I knew to be in the system already.
I look forward to the next fase in the developement but for now I’ll stick with 7

it is a good record, BTW it is the record of direct downloads from Microsoft site, I know a lot of people who didn’t  download it ( not all the people have high speed  connection ) but they  took it from their friends (one for all , all for one) LOL.
so the real record is way more that one million in the first 24 hours.

That’s a good point. The number of downloads doesn’t necessarilly equate to the number of installs. I downloaded both versions of Windows 8 x86 and x64) and have installed it on five machines. On Monday, I’ll offer to make copies of the installation DVDs to co-workers and friends.

    Dear Onuora,

This is the best part I love about Microsoft, giving free downloads to the customers to taste what has been achieves so far. One million downloads of the Windows Consumer Preview a day flown to the customers, it’s OK - Not too bad, even the Windows Consumer Preview is still fully undone and need more additional updates from Microsoft. The Service centre, the Fix it centre and the Software downloads centre have work very hard giving full guidance and care to the products to help the customer feels comfort using the computer.
The rejections done both by the Windows Developer Preview and the Windows 8 Consumer Preview to my Dell inspiron 8600 machines was a good decisions, when the installations started, the Program neatly check the ability of the machine and finally gave the full report and warning that the both Windows will run slow under 1 GB RAM memory and it should be cancel immediately before it ruins the machine. There is still ways to make it possible, is to upgrade and add more RAM memory to the machine, if it still fail why not try them on other suitable machines for both Windows Developer Preview and Windows 8 Consumer Preview as it was said that it is the latest Products release by Microsoft. Thank you.
