Windows has taken a huge step in social world with Windows 8. It has brought (almost) all of your social networks to your desktop. It just doesn’t stop at bringing your social contacts to desktop.
All the data of a contact – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MSN, Google, etc. – are collected together so that you can see the contact as a whole entity.
Twitter has taken the online social world by storm with its 140-character messages called tweets. The micro blogging network being very convenient to post small status or messages, people are using Twitter even for casual chats.
Besides that, these 140-character tweets have already shown their might by providing viral news updates on internet – an example was the tweets posted by Egyptians during the recent Egypt Revolution.
Windows 8 has clearly prioritized Twitter in its social integration. Once you connect your Twitter account to your Microsoft Account, you will be able to view your timeline, profile details, notifications from Twitter on the desktop itself, through People app.
You will also be able to retweet, reply, mention people in your tweets directly through the desktop.
The best way to set up a Twitter account is to connect the People app to it. People app acts a social hub in Windows 8, providing the latest updates of your social contacts.
Launch the People app from the Start Screen. The welcome screen of the app prompts you to connect to various online services. Select Twitter from the list of services.
An inline webpage frame launches, which initiates the connection to Twitter.
The so loaded page informs you what you can do and what data you share after you connect your Twitter account to Windows 8. Click on “Connect” button to move on.
The resulting page asks for Twitter credentials.
Also, Twitter informs in this page what account data you are permitting Microsoft to access. In a way, this page acts as the final confirmation from Twitter.
If you are fine with the permissions being given to Microsoft, then enter the credentials and click “Log In”. Twitter will authenticate the credentials.
The final page of the setup informs you that the connection is successful. Behind the scenes, the People app would already have begun to fetch your Twitter contacts and their details.
People app has following 3 sections that show different data from your Twitter account.
