Microsoft is a company with big, big expectations. The Windows 8 Store has clearly seen fast growth, particularly now with the official release of Windows 8 behind it, but it still has a way to go before it catches up with Microsoft’s forecast of 100,000 apps by February.
Over 6,000 apps were available at the Windows Store on October 26, the day when Windows 8 was officially rolled out — a number which has currently grown to around 16,000 as posted by WinAppUpdate. The US version of the Store provides access to 9,343 unique apps, from a total of 15,968 apps that are available worldwide.
And better yet, the platform is gathering strong interest the world over. More than 3,000 apps are said to have been submitted in the last 8 days alone. Microsoft, on the other hand, hopes to see at least 100,000 apps in its Store by February next year — particularly now that the operating system has expanded onto laptops and tablets along with the desktop PCs. And for that to happen, things really – I mean, really – need to pick up.
