Chitika Insights’ recently published report shows continuing domination of the tablet market, but also shows the Surface gaining a tiny footprint market-share-wise.
The basis of the Chitika study and results comes from a sample of tens of millions of tablet impressions from the Chitika Ad network between November 12th to November 18th 2012, including traffic only from the U.S. and Canada.
No surprises regarding the market leader – Apple continues to dominate the market with the iPad, with over 88% of market share. The rest of the market divvy up the little remaining share, with the Kindle Fire ahead of the pack.
For every 100 iPad impressions, the Kindle Fire scores 4.05 impressions, followed by Samsung Galaxy Tablets at 2.68. Google Nexus 7 and 10 tablets are third, with 1.03 for every 100 iPad impressions.
The Microsoft Surface – just over a month and a half old, scores 0.15 impressions for every 100 iPad impression.
The word for this is a scary one – monopoly. This will no doubt be strengthened by the introduction of the iPad Mini, but expect strong competition from the Android world – Amazon, Samsung and Google tablets.
With 0.15 impressions per every 100 iPad ones, Microsoft and their OEMs have their work cut in the next year or two.
