HP ElitePad 900 is a Perfect Business Tablet, and is Now Available for PreOrder

When it comes to using Windows 8 and Windows RT in the business world, there are quite a few options. While the Microsoft Surface is probably one of the first devices that come to mind, sometimes you just need something built specifically for use in a business environment. This is exactly what the HP ElitePad 900 is all about.

The ElitePad 900 features Windows 8 Pro and is designed to handle most of your everyday business applications with relative ease. With an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, it might not be a powerhouse but it still manages to present itself as a highly-portable package that can run new Start UI apps alongside your legacy business programs.

Beyond the processor, the ElitePad 900 features 2GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage, a two-cell battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and an 8MP rear camera. There is also a microSD card and a 1080p capable front cam. As for the resolution, the tablet features a 1280×800 display.

Another thing that sets the HP ElitePad 900 apart from more consumer-oriented devices is the presence of an active digitizer. Many businesses need a pen solution for signing documents and more, and that’s what the ElitePad delivers. That said, the pen itself is an optional purchase at $49. It’s also worth noting that drive encryption is available thanks to HP security software.

Now for the bad news, the tablet isn’t out on the market yet. The good news is that yesterday became the first day that the tablet was available for pre-orders at a starting price of $649. The tablet is expected to ship in January.

For about $150 more than the Surface, you get full Windows legacy app support, an active digitizer and many other premium business features. You can also get more memory (64GB) for $50 more, and for yet another $100 you can add GPS and an integrated mobile broadband modem into the mix. The HP ElitePad also has options for a dock and wireless keyboard.

While the ElitePad might not be the perfect device, it has a lot of business functionality that could make it a perfect addition to your organization. In fact, this is the tablet of choice for the Emirates airline’s new tablet program.

What do you think, interested in the HP business tablet or not?
