Samsung Launches the ATIV Odyssey on Verizon Wireless for $49.99

Verizon has just announced availability of the Samsung Ativ Odyssey, a 4-inch budget Windows Phone 8 handset, from January 24th at $49.99 with a two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Samsung’s first Ativ phone in the United States was scheduled for launch last December, but the date slipped.  The new Ativ is downmarket from the Nokia Lumia 920 with only 8GB of storage but still sports a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor.

Following on the heels of the HTC 8X ($99.99) and Nokia Lumia 822 ($49.99), the Ativ becomes the third Windows Phone 8 device in Verizon’s lineup.

Like other Windows 8 smartphones, the Ativ Odyssey allows screen customization using resizable Live Tiles and changeable color themes.

The ATIV Odyssey, comes with a bundle of new apps, such as the Now app, which provides access to weather, news, stocks and more. Using the 5-megapixel camera, the built-in Photo Editor app can apply filters, frames and stickers, and resize, rotate and crop photos. Photos can shared with friends or post to social media sites over 4G LTE.
