Microsoft may secretly be fuming with the lack of new devices that are powered by its latest operating system, but there are some that believe the case to be otherwise.
Redmond has not hidden its desire to see more PC manufacturers embrace the Windows 8 OS and bring new devices to market that make the most of its features.
While the idea may seem simple at first glance, it is, in fact a double-edged sword — at least, when it comes to mobile devices, if not traditional PCs and laptops. This is what Techaisle analyst Anurag Agrawal seems to think.
Talking to InformationWeek, the analyst said:
“They serve up a dizzying array of brands that causes confusion even within the knowledgeable and well-researched end user. [There are] too many individual brands competing with each other both on the OS side and on the device side.”
So basically, a large (if not huge) number of form factors, brands and features are only causing more and more confusion among buyers, who are actually forced to do a lot more research before they decide on a Windows 8 product.
Currently, several hardware vendors are already selling Windows 8 devices — the most important big guns being Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer and (friendly old) Samsung. And of course, Microsoft itself, with its Surface line up of slates.
