New Version Of Office For Mac Coming In The Second Half Of 2014

Mac owners usually are a patient bunch when it comes to software, but many have been eagerly awaiting the release of a new standalone version of Microsoft Office.

Office for Mac 2011 was the last version Microsoft released for the platform.

And it appears that their wait for a new flavor of the Office productivity suite will have to go on for just little longer. There have been hints that Redmond is developing the next full upgrade, but a new report states that it will arrive sometimes after the second quarter of the year.

Computerweek Germany got in touch with Thorsten Hübschen, the business group leader for Microsoft Office in that country, who, without confirming any specifics, indicated that more information will only be shared in the second quarter of 2014.

Additionally, Computerworld also fielded the question to a Microsoft spokesperson, and while they got confirmation that the company is working on the next version of Office for Mac, it appears that it the refresh is only happening in the second half of the year.

Microsoft has, in the meantime, refreshed Office for Mac 2011 with some minor updates, including adding in support for Retina Display, but a full refresh is surely in order.

Luckily, things finally seem to be picking up pace on this front.
