Leaked Version Of Windows 8.1 Update 1 Might Not Be The Final RTM Version

Buttermilk biscuits! If you managed to download and install the leaked Windows 8.1 Update 1 that became available last week, then, boy, you could be in for a nasty surprise. Word is that this was a premature release, and not the final version.

Microsoft put up the download links of Windows 8.1 Update 1 last week (accidently or otherwise) and although they were quickly taken down, many users managed to install the new operating system.

But now a Chinese website is claiming that the build that was delivered to users was actually just a test version that was supposed to test the update system for when Update 1 officially goes live.

This post suggests that build 17031 is not the final RTM version.

And that’s not even the worse of it. It is being claimed that users that installed this build might be required to install their operating system afresh when the final version becomes available.

No way to tell if this new report is accurate or not, but the version that was delivered to users via Microsoft’s very own links was actually very close to the final, stable build, and included pretty much all of the features that been rumored for this Spring 2014 Update to Windows 8.1.

Either way, we just might have to wait for the BUILD conference for the complete details.
