Compal receives prestigious IF Design Award, innovative hardware incoming?

If you are out of the loop, Compal is one of the most important OEMs around. The company handles production of notebooks (among others) for some of the biggest brand vendors.

You know, companies like Acer, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba.

And they have just received the very prestigious IF Design Award this year, which is basically the highest honor in the world of device design. The award includes traditional models and newer categories like convertible notebooks, tablet/laptop hybrids, and more.

The company has tried to enhance the flexibility and productivity of these mobile computers with special accessories like Kimberly, Concorde, Concorde Blade and Concorde Slide.

Kimberly, for instance, is the simples of the bunch, and it is essentially a design for an 11.6-inch blade edge tablet that brings around a few additional standard connectors.

It also integrates acoustics around the design for enhanced audio quality.

Concorde is the big deal here, which is billed as the first 10.1-inch tablet with a keyboard that can be opened and used in 1 second. Flat.

Which means that the keyboard does not separate when picked up with one hand.

Concorde Slide is for an 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet with an easy adjustment accessory, while Concorde Blade is for tablets with the same display size but that are suited for indoor usage, with readily available charging outlets. The company has moved 60 percent of the battery weight into the keyboard pouch.

Some pretty neat innovations for Windows based tablets and notebooks.

All we need now is to find out whether some of the biggest brand vendors are picking up these ideas and designs for some of their future products.

They ought to.
