Windows 8.1 Update 2 Could Be Here By September 9

Microsoft’s flagship operating system is in line to get its second update sometime this year, with the company already confirming such a happening. But details on timing have been overly scarce.

Some are expecting it to arrive after August — others by the end of the year.

Well, we might just have a month to go by now. September 9 is said to be the exact date Windows 8.1 Update 2 (or by some counts Windows 8.2) is going live. These, obviously, are unofficial leaks coming from channel partners, so nothing is set in stone.

And even if it was, it could easily slip by a month or two, depending on development and logistics.

But anyway, this report cites Windows leakers who are claiming that Microsoft is planning to launch the second update to Windows 8.1 in September. If we go by delivery via Windows Update, then the September 9 could be on, as it is the day when Redmond will roll out Patch Tuesday fixes for the month.

Windows 8.1 Update 2 is an anticipated arrival, not just for the fact that it is expected to include a brand new Start Menu that is supposed to make the modern OS easier to use on desktops.

Microsoft already confirmed the return of the Start Menu at its BUILD 2014 developer event.
