Windows 8.1 App Watch: Skyling: Garden Defense

Ask an old school gamer like, and you’ll hear just how few isometric titles there are in the world. 3D environments have taken over the gaming world, and rightly so, with the immersion and visual fidelity they provide.

But there is always room for games like Skyling: Garden Defense. Your object here is to grow grass on ever tile, and this can be done by moving your character over to the tiles using either touch, joystick or the good old keyboard.

Here is the official description:

“Skyling: Garden Defense is a 2D, isometric maze game that blends classic arcade-style game play with a lighthearted presentation filled with blooming plants, colorful monsters and sleeping cats.

Help a young Skyling named Bloom restore each garden by touching every square to spring them back to life. But be careful, the gardens have been overrun with Blight Monsters that want to destroy everything, including young Bloom! Thankfully, the gardens have switches, gates and elevators you can use to avoid their grasp.”

Things are further complicated, as mentioned above, by monsters, that really make the game interesting. Some may just block your path, while others eat grass — this is where the puzzle side of the game shines as these monsters require special attention to deal with.

The presentation too is absolutely beautiful, and it shows in every pixel.

Although it retails for $2.99, it is worth every cent if you are into finely crafted casual games. You can try it out via the free trial, which is available for all modern versions of Windows, including ARM.
