Windows 8 Users Might Be Able To Buy Windows 8.1 Update 2

This was interesting when we first heard about it, it is still interesting now. According to reports, Microsoft is preparing a paid option for users that want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Update 2.

Last we heard, the company was contemplating offering this version to Windows 8 users with a small fee if they wanted to directly upgrade to the latest version of the operating system — without the hassle of first installing Windows 8.1 and then Windows 8.1 Update.

The latest on the grapevine is that this continues to be the case right now.

The core version of Windows 8 still has a rather large user base, and it seems that Microsoft is now ready to target this group of users with an offer to update.

Good thing is that acquiring new license keys this way might also get them access to Windows 9, completely free of charge. While other users will have to purchase the new operating system when it launches in early 2015.

Take everything with a pinch of salt, though.

Windows 8.1 Update 2 is expected to debut in August or September, and Microsoft is very likely to share more information about it in the weeks to come.
