Nokia By Microsoft Branded Android Smartphones Incoming

The license agreement that Microsoft and Nokia have in place for branding and marketing usage is rather interesting in the sense that it provides some hints at the future mobile strategy that is brewing up in the Redmond offices.

Last we heard on this was that company was considering using the “Nokia by Microsoft” on its Windows Phone handsets, in preparation for the expiration of the initial licensing agreement next year.

Redmond was also said to be thinking about replacing the Surface brand with Lumia.

A follow up on this report claims that the next handsets to be shipped with this “Nokia by Microsoft” branding will actually be the Android powered line up from the company, not the future Windows Phone handsets as was expected.

In fact, these Android smartphones will also come with the Lumia tag — confusing at it sounds.

All said and done, Microsoft’s immediate plans for both Windows Phone and Android seem to be rather unclear at the moment. As a result unconfirmed rumors are running wild. We will have to wait for official confirmation from the company on this to get any real idea.

In the meantime, what do you think about reserving the “Nokia by Microsoft” branding for Microsoft’s Android lineup of budget smartphones? Sound off in the comments below.
