Satya Nadella Promises Innovation In New Email To Employees

It seems only yesterday when Satya Nadella took charge as Microsoft CEO back in February. Since then, he has overseen a number of product releases, making key decisions along the way.

Through it all, though, the new Microsoft head has streamlined and simplified Microsoft’s business.

And in a new email to employees sent earlier today, which has also been released to the public, Nadella has talked strategy in detail, and in the process defined the new Microsoft. Of course, mobile and cloud products and services are still firmly in the spotlight.

But productivity is now fast becoming the hallmark for the company:

“At our core, Microsoft is the productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world. We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more.”

Speaking of software, the CEO said that Microsoft will create software across a variety of devices, not to be constrained by what company is making the hardware. Alluding to Office for iPad, surely.

At the same time, hardware is still a key part of the puzzle.

And Redmond wants to create hardware that will stimulate more demand for the Windows ecosystem. Clearly, the platform is important for the company as it tried to bring the Windows operating system to more devices in different form factors.

He also emphasized the importance of the Xbox brand to the company, clearly putting the lid on a potential Xbox spinoff or sale.

And finally, he has asked senior executives in the company to create plans to innovate in their respective departments and business units, while simplifying their operations. More information on this is promised later this month.

I hope he follows through on this. Innovation is needed out in Redmond. I think he’s made some nice strides, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.
