Microsoft Promises More Details On Nokia Acquisition On July 22

Redmond recently closed the books on its Nokia acquisition, finalizing the purchase of the Finnish company’s devices and services unit. But the purchase gave rise to many a question.

A few were answered when the deal officially closed, but plenty still remain — details like licensing the brand name of Nokia, and equally important, the future of the Android lineup from the company. Luckily, a lot of these are set to be answered soon.

Soon, as in, July 22.

In an interview with Seattle Times, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has promised to offer more insights into the acquisition and future mobile strategy on this date.

This is what he said about the company’s future plans for Nokia:

“We’re not in hardware for hardware’s sake, we’re in hardware to be able to express all our platform and productivity software in a way that’s unique.”

Solid words, that should tide us next Tuesday, I must say.

But really, this Nokia business has become rather important for Microsoft. From rumors about branding, and cutting a few jobs, to the open letter that CEO posted yesterday, it seems that some big changes are right around the corner.

It will be rather interesting what Microsoft has to say on July 22, which is, coincidentally, also the date when the company will hold its quarterly earnings call.
