Remember Alan Mulally? Of course, you do! The former Ford president that was rumored to be the leading name on the shortlist of people for the CEO top spot at Microsoft.
That is, before Satya Nadella was finally chosen for the job.
So anyway, our man Alan Mulally now has a new job. He has decided to join Google, has a seat on the Board of Directors, and will serve on the company’s Audit Committee. The news only came out hours ago, but the appointment was actually finalized a full week before, July 9.
Here are the details, with a comment from Google’s CEO Larry Page:
“Alan brings a wealth of proven business and technology leadership experience. I am so pleased that Alan is now joining Google’s board.”
I’m sure, many are, Larry.
Mulally handled the duties of president and chief executive officer at Ford, and had been with the automaker between September 2006 and June 2014. Prior to that he spent time at Boeing, serving as the executive vice president and the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
An illustrated and impressive resume, sure, but his decision to join Google comes as a bit of a surprise. He himself announced that he was not interested in taking the job at Microsoft, and instead wanted to stay with Ford through 2014.
With almost half the year remaining, it appears that Alan Mulally had a change of heart, and decided to part ways with his previous employer at the start of the month.
