Windows 8.1 App Watch: Asphalt Overdrive

Gameloft have a good thing going with their Asphalt series of racing titles. Their newest, Asphalt Overdrive is less of a racing game, more of a running one.

Think Temple Run, only with some really exotic vehicles.

You don’t actually control the car in this game, but only move it between lanes and do special stylish stunts. A variety of mission types are available that have you escaping the cops or defeating bosses, and the game looks absolutely stunning.

A peek at the official description:

“Discover the award-winning Asphalt series’ first spinoff with Asphalt Overdrive, an intense arcade racing experience packed to go! Outrun the cops in an exciting game set in a “new ’80s”-inspired version of California.”

Can’t go wrong with the 80s, that’s for sure!

One issue though, is that this is a game best enjoyed on touch enabled devices. You can play it with mouse, for instance, but that is very much less than ideal.

You can purchase new cars with the money you earn while playing, or invest those funds into upgrades.

Speaking of which, this early build of Asphalt Overdrive needs a little more tuning. The game occasionally syncs out saying that it cannot find an Internet connection. Nothing the next update cannot fix. For now you can enjoy this universal game on x86, x64 and ARM versions of Windows.
