Office For Android Tablets Unveiled, Free For Users

Office For Android Tablets

No secret that Microsoft was working on Office for Android tablets, a version of its productivity suite custom designed for the world’s most popular mobile platform.

But the company has just made it official today.

And it is inviting users that are interested in this flavor, to sign up for the preview version that will be available sometime in December. It currently supports Android tablets that have KitKat (version 4.4) of the operating system installed.

The head of Office marketing, Michael Atalla talked about this release:

“Our goal with this preview is to ensure that we get a broad representation of the vast array of form factors, device types and operating system versions that the Android tablet install base represents, and make sure we can polish these apps.”

But that’s not even the most exciting part of all this.

The company has confirmed that users will not need an active Office 365 subscription to use them. Which is to say that Office on mobile devices is now free to use, and users can create and edit documents on iPhone, iPad and Android devices without any associated costs.
