Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2

Broadwell convertibles are in! The leading PC maker promised such devices to be available by the holiday season, and the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2 is here to delight.

It comes powered by Intel Core M and can be yours for $979. And up.

The successor to the original ThinkPad Helix, the business oriented device was unveiled back at IFA 2014 earlier this year, and the replacement arrives at much more affordable rates. The 2013 model, for instance, had a starting price of $1,679 at debut.

Magic of the Intel Core M chips, one may make a point?

The Helix 2 is essentially a tablet — albeit one that comes with a docking keyboard that allows for usage as a laptop. The base model offers the same 11.6-inch display with a full HD 1080p resolution as its predecessor.

You also get an Intel Core M 5Y10 processor that is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

A more advanced variant is also available for more demanding customers. This one utilizes a beefed up Core M 5Y70 processor, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Quite a lot of power in a package that only consumers a little more power than Intel Atom offerings.

The highlight of the device is the magnetic accessory that connects to the display via the small pins at the bottom, forgoing the need to connect via Bluetooth. So that’s a plus.

However, in terms of battery life you are looking at either 8 hours in tablet mode, while the laptop mode should suffice for 12 hour stints.

The Windows ecosystem needs more devices like this!
