Windows 8.1 App Watch: The Tribez

Funky name for a neatly designed building game. The Tribez lets you develop your very own village, from the humblest of beginnings all the way up to a bustling metropolis.

And it looks great doing so.

It is actually not dissimilar to many other such mobile games that are available on the Windows Store, and on competing platforms. That is to say, you get several tasks, some of which may take hours to complete. Meaning you either wait them out, or buy premium credits to speed things up.

Before we get to the gameplay, here is the official description:

“Tribez is not just a game! Tribez is an adventure, where you travel to a distant past full of secrets, mysteries and many hours of addictive discovery of an unknown, but beautiful world!

You are invited to visit a primitive world inhabited by a peace-loving people, who have been hidden behind a miles-deep portal from time immemorial. Build your own stone-age village, explore territories hidden by mountains and seas, and lead your tribe, who considers you sent by the gods, to prosperity.”

You can hire and control workers, and these can then be used on a variety of tasks, from constructing new buildings, operating them or gathering new resources — workers essentially are the backbone of your village here.

In addition to that, the game also serves up quests regularly, which not only act as guidance but also offer rewards on completion. Many social elements are also built in, adding to the fun.

This free game runs on all modern versions of Windows, x86, x64 and ARM. It is a universal app, works great on Windows Phone, and the download size is quite manageable at 175MB. If you are into these type of games, then this is well worth a look.
