Windows 8.1 App Watch: AOL On

AOL On

Been a while since we’ve had a high-profile release on the Windows Store, and they rarely get more prominent than AOL On, the newest app to come from AOL.

It features a plethora of videos, movies and television shows that can be watched right in the Modern UI of your Windows 8.1 device. These come from several different providers, and while the movies and TV shows are not always the newest, they are free and they are here for everyone.

Here’s the official description:

“Watch the latest videos – from breaking news, celebrity gossip, and now with movies! AOL On has the best videos from Reuters, E!, Engadget, Miramax and many more. AOL On turns on your day with what you should be watching now – whether that’s breaking news, celebrity gossip, the newest tech demo, or even a movie. Check out our library of over a million videos on every topic – all for free!”

Pretty neat.

Neater still, the videos are not geo-restricted — at least they don’t seem to be right now. Meaning they can be watched from anywhere in world. Interesting, and quite welcome.

The user interface of this free app is shipshape and organized, though some improvements may still come in handy. A dedicated news section will only add to the appeal of what is a good first try for a nicely designed entertainment app. Not universal, but works on x86, 64 and ARM versions of Windows.
