Microsoft Lumia 640 XL With Upgraded Hardware Incoming

Lumia 640 XL Refresh

Now this is something that you don’t see all that often. The Microsoft Lumia 640 XL phablet was officially unveiled last month at MWC 2015 in Barcelona, but an upgrade is on the cards.

Microsoft, it appears, is already working on a hardware refresh of this handset.

With reports that the new model will make its debut in China very soon.

The 5.7-inch handset is currently on offer with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor that is paired with a handy 1GB of RAM — quite enough to meet the requirements of a lot of mobile apps and games, without any impact on performance.

More than that, these specifications are more than enough to run Windows 10 for Phones.

But apparently that is not enough.

The idea here is to position the Lumia 640 XL more as a flagship, and according to the documentation published above, Microsoft plans on packing a 2.2GHz processor and 2GB or RAM in the refresh. That is some serious power on what still will remain an affordable offering.

There have been some voices claiming that the 640 XL actually succeeds the Lumia 1320 phablet, meaning a 1330 model may not be made available.

And while we have heard nothing from Microsoft on this, refreshing this new handset with more powerful hardware makes sense on some levels. More on this soon, I guess.
