Development Of Windows 8.1 Update 2 Reportedly Complete

Windows 8.1 already received a major update this year, and it is about to get another one very soon. Although officially unconfirmed, Windows 8.1 Update 2 is on track for release later this year.

Microsoft have, however, made it clear that they are working on a new update for Windows 8.1.

What the company decides to call it is still up in the air, with names like Windows 8.1 Update 2 or Windows 8.2 being thrown around. Chances are that it is going to be the former, rather than the latter. Then again, one never can tell with these things.

But we might have an idea of how the development is coming along.

This leaked image reportedly cites Microsoft’s product release cycle, and claims that this version of Windows is now in preview stage — which is another way of saying that Windows 8.1 Update 2 might launch in the middle of 2014.

Previous rumors on the matter hinted at an August or September launch.

In any case, Windows 8.1 Update 2 is perhaps the most significant update to the platform yet, in the sense that it is poised to bring back the Start Menu, and Microsoft will also implement options to launch Metro apps in separate windows.

These are, arguably, the two most requested features from the user base.
