A Respectable Number of Windows 8 Jobs Out There

Advertised jobs can give us valuable insights into the adoption of operating systems, such as Windows 8.

So today, I took a look at advertised jobs on Dice, “The Career Hub for Tech” to see how Windows 8 jobs were developing.

The numbers tell an interesting story.  Of the four OSs for which jobs were advertised – XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, guess which had the most ads?

Yep, you got it, the venerable Windows XP, with 1194 jobs advertised.  Wow.  So much for Windows 7 sweeping XP out the door.

Next up, a close second, was Windows 7, with 1063 jobs advertised.  OK, no surprise there.  How about Windows Vista?

Windows Vista had a shocking (or perhaps not-so-shocking) 42 jobs advertised.  That’s right, a paltry 42 jobs, vs 1194 of the older XP.

Windows 8 even had a more respectable 91 jobs advertised.  That’s a good start for an OS that has been out for several weeks.

So all in all, not a bad start for Windows 8, but isn’t it fascinating the core of XP users still out there? The number of Vista jobs also reinforces its failure in the market.

If you are an IT professional, which of these do you primarily develop for?
