The Kindle Fire is going to kick ass this Christmas! There is no question about it.

Digitimes is reporting that Amazon has recently increased its Kindle Fire orders to 5 million units for delivery before the end of 2011. This is the second time they have increased the order volume for the unt, the last time was from 3.5 million units to 4 million.

The Kindle Fire is estimated to have recorded nearly 100,000 unit sales on the first day it was available for preorder and sold at a rate of about 20,000 units a day for the next six days.

The unit will ship to consumers beginning Monday and is regarded as the first really legitimate challenge to Apple’s wildly popular Ipad.

Microsoft are going to have to play a lot of catch-up next year as they will probably be competing with an Ipad 3 as well as a second generation of the Fire at the rate this is going.

The stakes for Windows 8 just keep getting higher and higher.
