Surface 2.0 is probably the best kept Microsoft secret in recent memory. While the technology titan has shared all sorts of details regarding the upcoming Windows Blue upgrade, things have been quite on the next generation Surface front.
Insider sources have long suggested that Redmond is working on a new Surface tablet that can be unveiled as soon as this month at the BUILD developer conference.
Now another report at TNW claims that the company is trying to clear out current Surface inventories to make room for the new product range. Anticipation seems to be high that the new devices would go on sale in just a couple of months.
Microsoft is said to have worked out a new strategy — the company is offering not just discounts, but also giveaways for the current Surface RT as a new model is on its way.
Sources familiar with the matter believe that Microsoft is planning to debut a Surface Mini that is equipped with an 8-inch display. The new device is being prepared to compete with the likes of iPad Mini and Nexus 7, both of which are set to receive new models later this year.
Things stay the same on the pricing front, though. Surface Mini is said to come with a price tag of $249, as the company wants to target the affordable segment of the market with this new generation Surface.
