Microsoft has made Windows Defender a strong contender for top notch security on its OS, but there are a few other excellent Windows 10 antivirus programs available for home users.

Which have been carefully compiled by the folks over at AV-TEST.

The independent German security software testing firm is here to lend you a hand in making the right decision if you are about to choose an antivirus software. They very recent performed some tests, revealing the data for April 2018.

And there are some big surprises this time around, with giants like Kaspersky and Bitdefender failing to secure the leading spots.

Here are the charts:

Showing that AhnLab V3 Internet Security and Avira Antivirus Pro 15.0 were found to be the highest rated security solutions in these tests. Both received the maximum 6 out of 6 points in the three categories — protection, performance, and usability.

That said, Kaspersky and McAfee are not far from top places, gaining overall scores of 17.5 to be ranked second, alongside Trend Micro.

Bitdefender ended up with 17 points.

The same score as Avast, which provides free antivirus protection and scored rather well.

And if you’re wondering the lowest score, it was obtained by PC Pitstop by PC Matic, which received only 4 points for protection, 6 points for performance and 3 points for usability. With a final score of 13 points this app scored even worse than Microsoft Windows Defender.

Which itself has been improving with each passing month, gaining 5.5 points for each of the three tests.
