Today, Bill Gates on Thursday called the new Windows 8 operating system scheduled for release next month ‘‘a very exciting new product’’ and ‘‘a very big deal’’.

In an interview with the AP, Mr. Gates said he is already using Windows 8 ‘‘and I’m very pleased with it.’’

Microsoft are making Windows 8 the largest transformational event in the company’s history. It’s pretty refreshing to hear Bill weigh in on this.

‘‘Hardware partners are doing great things to take advantage of the features,’’ Gates added. ‘‘It’ll be a big deal.’’

Windows 8 is a really big deal for Redmond. The entire PC industry has a stake in this game.
