Chitika Insights have updated their report on the tablet market for December. Apple continues to dominate in tablets but Google’s Nexus, Samsung’s Galaxy and the Kindle Fire showed significant growth.

Microsoft’s Surface RT market share also grew in the study but from a very tiny base.

Chitika examined a sample of tens of millions of tablet impressions from the Chitika Ad network between December 8th and December 14th 2012, analyzing traffic from the U.S. and Canada only.

Apple continued to dominate the market with the iPad and Mini iPad, accounting for 87% of the total market. Amazon’s Kindle Fire was head of the remaining pack.

For every 100 iPad impressions, the Kindle Fire scores 4.88 impressions, followed by Samsung Galaxy Tablets at 3.84. Google Nexus 7 and 10 tablets were third, with 1.22 for every 100 iPad impressions.

The Surface RT went from 0.15 to 0.22 impressions for every 100 iPad impressions, 50% growth, but from a tiny sliver of a base.

No one yet has found the antidote to Apple’s domination, particularly now that iPad Mini sales are exploding. However, Amazon, Google and Samsung and of course, Microsoft will be trying mightily in 2013 to change these numbers.
