Chitika Insights has released its OS market share numbers for November 2012, with numbers derived from their ad network. They combine desktop and mobile platforms.

The numbers show the greatest gains for Android devices as they shine in mobile device markets. Mobile devices are growing faster than desktops and Microsoft lacks dominance in that arena. Correspondingly, Windows OSs lost the greatest market share, percentage wise.

Google Android’s market share grew from 8.18% to 9.44% – a gain of 1.26%. Apple’s iOS was the second fastest growing sector, recording a growth of 0.57% to 16.01%.

The news is not completely bleak for Microsoft as the new Surface is still getting off the ground as are offerings by Nokia (smartphones) and HP and Dell with convertibles.
