You can’t get something for nothing. That is, unless you work for Microsoft. The company’s lucky employees apparently are going to get Microsoft’s much-anticipated Surface tablet completely for free as a perk.
Want the Microsoft Surface for free as well? The Dummies “how to” company has your back.

The Dummies brand has been a popular technology guide in the past, going back to the days of DOS even, and continues to push its line into the future with Windows 8. Two new titles, “Windows 8 for Dummies” and “Surface for Dummies” are on their way soon and the company hopes to promote the books by giving away Microsoft’s new tablet.

The contest will not only give you both books for free, but a Microsoft Surface tablet. The model that is given away isn’t officially stated, but the approximate value suggest for the prize package is around $350- suggesting this is the basic RT model of the tablet.

The contest is open now and runs through December 31st for residents of the US, Canada and the UK. You can submit an entry once a day until the end of the contest. A winner will be drawn randomly sometime in January.
What do we know about the Microsoft Surface so far? Not too much as far as specs are concerned.

Here are the few things we know about the hardware specs for the RT Surface model- keep in mind this might not actually be what is being given away:

  • Capacitive, Multi-touch
  • Light sensor, scratch-resistant glass
  • NVIDIA Tegra 3+ processor
  • 64GB of storage
  • microSD (HC)
  • a built in cam
  • GPS
  • WIFI
  • USB 2.0

As you can tell, we don’t know much about the RAM or even processor speed. Regardless of which model they are giving away, free is good. That much is for sure.
