Microsoft expanded their tablet lineup with a powerful new model yesterday at a press event in New York. And although primarily aimed at corporate users, the Surface Pro 3 holds great interest for power users and enthusiasts too.

It arrives with a 12-inch full HD screen that can handle a resolution of 2160 by 1440, and like other models in the Surface lineup, Microsoft offers multiple memory and storage configurations.

This is what the company says about the new tablet:

“Featuring a gorgeous 12-inch display encased in a sleek magnesium frame, Surface Pro 3 is the thinnest and lightest in our Pro family. Refined to its essential elements, Surface Pro 3 is as beautiful as it is functional so you can stay productive from anywhere. Just slip it into your bag or backpack and go.”

The Surface Pro 3 is powered by a 4th generation Intel chip and this time around users can choose between Core i3, i5, or i7 variants — depending on the model, of course.

And the slate also comes with two different 5 megapixel cameras, both rear and front. A number of connectivity options are also included, from a full-size USB 3.0 port, headset jack, a microSD card reader, among others.

Windows 8.1 Pro, obviously, handles the software side of things.

9 hours of web browsing and the pen feature! All of these plus the 12′ HD screen makes this better than the iPad in my view! I’ll have to wait until I actually play with it before I make the official ruling, but that’s my gut feeling right now.

The more I read, the more impressed I am. I’m not a “Microsoft Fanboy” either. I am open to all new technology, and this seems like the best tablet available once it’s released.
