It has been more or less two years since HTC launched new Windows Phone 8 handsets, the 8S and 8X. And no, the 8XT does not count, as it was just a reworked Sprint exclusive.
But now the Taiwanese company is getting back to the party. In style.
Word has been spiraling that a new HTC smartphone powered by the Windows Phone operating system is set for launch very soon, and it appears that the company has started sending out press invites for an event in New York next month.
As this report reveals, this probably is the launch event for the Windows Phone variant of the One M8, creatively titled HTC One M8 for Windows.
The event is scheduled for August 19, while rumors have claimed that the smartphone would be shipped to Microsoft Stores on August 20, ahead of its public debut on August 21. Add one, two and three together, and you have pretty much solved the puzzle.
Now obviously, the long awaited handset should please fans of HTC, as well as Windows Phone, as this device is expected to arrive with Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 onboard — and with it, the features exclusive to this latest version of the mobile operating system.
Plus who knows, if this sells well enough, HTC might be tempted to introduce true new handsets, a full range of them at varying price points, instead of just altered versions of Android flagships.
