The big day is finally here! For many, the biggest day since the launch of the original Windows Phone 8. Starting today, owners of compatible handsets will start receiving the new Nokia Lumia Cyan update.

Microsoft have officially confirmed this just now, revealing that this update comes with everything that Windows Phone 8.1 brings to the table, along with a whole bunch of exclusive features and enhancements for Lumia branded smartphones.

So even if you tasted what was new with the developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1, there are enough novel features here to pique your interest.

Details of which are posted here on the Nokia Conversations blog:

“Starting today, the Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphone family will receive the Lumia Cyan software, the new Windows Phone 8.1 update and Lumia features upgrade that will make your Lumia an even more personal, fun and indispensable part of your life.”

The company confirms that the update has started rolling out today, and all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices will be getting it in the weeks to come.

Users will receive notifications when the new firmware is available for their smartphones, but this ultimately depends upon their model, make, market and mobile network.
