When it comes to cloud storage, there are certainly a lot of options out there. So what can a competitor do to help set themselves aside from the competition? In Microsoft’s case, it’s all about adding a new music feature into SkyDrive, at least if a new rumor is to be believed.
Apparently there is source code references in SkyDrive that point to a Music Player within the code. This could mean that a SkyDrive music player is in works for a future release. If this is all true, odds are that this music player has something to do with Microsoft’s new Xbox Music service.
Microsoft had previously mentioned a cloud storage solution would b e coming to Xbox Music where you could upload any music you actually own onto the cloud, and then from there you could play it from Xbox Music streaming. This also includes music that normally isn’t available in Xbox’s Music catalog.
With this rumor in mind, SkyDrive could certainly be the power behind the Xbox Music feature, since the storage method is already in place and established. At the same time, Xbox Music subscribers could also listen to their tunes directly from the cloud.
For now, this is all rumor and speculation but it doesn’t sound too crazy. What do you think of a cloud music player getting added into SkyDrive? A good move or not?[ source ]
