Microsoft go to war – 3 to 5 million Surface Tablets to be manufactured this quarter!

Why do OEM’s not want to build Windows RT devices again?

Oh yeah! Here’s why…

Microsoft seem to be planning to dominate the holiday season with large volume production of its first tablet computer, Surface, in the fourth quarter.

This from the Wall Street Journal:

According to component suppliers in Asia,  Microsoft has placed orders to produce 3 million to 5 million of these tablets in the fourth quarter. That is similar to the orders that were placed for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets and Google GOOG +0.21%’s Nexus 7 tablets, these suppliers say.  Some component suppliers to Apple AAPL 0.00% in Asia say they have received orders to make more than 10 million units of a smaller tablet for the Cupertino, Calif. company in the fourth quarter.

The Surface tablet is 9.3 millimeters thick and weighs 1.5 pounds, which is similar to Apple’s iPad at 9.4 millimeters thick and weighing 1.44 pounds. The Surface has a built-in kickstand and magnetic cover, which also acts as a touch keyboard. There are no details yet on pricing and availability. The new device will run on Microsoft’s coming Windows 8 operating system.

The Microsoft Surface RT had it’s price temporarily revealed today at the Microsoft Store. It was taken down soon after.

if MS really wanted to get a foot hold out of the gates they should eat maybe $100.00 of that price till after the Xmas selling season after all it would be a tax write off, so win-win.
