Microsoft have a new corporate logo

For the first time in 25 years, Microsoft has uploaded a new corporate logo.

The new logo includes a multicolored set of four blocks that has increasingly been found on the company’s Windows products.

This does mark the first time EVER that the words “Microsoft” have been accompanied by an image.

“From Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Xbox services to the next version of Office, you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs,” Microsoft said in a blog post. “This wave of new releases is not only a reimagining of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning.”

Microsoft opted to use the Segoe font for the new logo, which is also used in its marketing communications and on Microsoft products. For the symbol to its left, Microsoft said the colors – red, green, blue, and orange – “are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products.”

Redmond will start rolling out its new logo today. It will be displayed prominently on, as well as in Boston, Seattle, and Bellevue, Wash. retail stores, and will appear at other retail locations and on global TV ads in the coming months.

Here’s a video from Microsoft heralding the change…

    Great Logo Onuora!

    • Onuora Amobi

I like this one. I can’t lie. I actually think this would have been better for Windows 8.

      • 123321

yeah. that was my first thought as well. as an alternative i think it would be nicer and even more modern to take the new Windows logo and instead of just one Color (blue) to take those four Microsoft Colors (blue, red, green and yellow) …
anyway. ist nice to see everything from Microsoft moving togheter and completing a whole new ecosystem where everything fits.

      • allanpoe

  • Danny

I would have done a circle representing the world with the four colors inside.

    • Onuora Amobi

That would have been an interesting slant on things…

    • Onuora Amobi

      Yeah, seems like it huh?

  • Robin

Nice try, but sorry, not good enough, after all the years Microsoft has been around, the logo’s still looks cheap, time for someone at deviantart dot com to create something that will catch the imagination of the world market.

  • http://N/A Andy

They should have done a circle representing the world with the four SOLID colors not as squares, but as the wavy design as the start button Orb.

    • Onuora Amobi

Wouldn’t that be the OLD logo?

  • cisilay

    This is simple and great.

  • carlos

    Cheap and ugly, like metro.
    Poor fantasy.

  • Carlos

    Cheap an ugly, like metro.
    Poor fantasy.

New(‘?’) logo??? This logo looks like it was probably the first draft of their original logo. I think it is proof of Microsoft’s devolution and not evolution. How can any company take such pride in its own mediocrity?

  • Robert

For me too simplistic as if designed by student for his school project. That is just me but I am not paid critic or designer……

  • Eduardo

Wow! I liked it! It really reminds Windows 8.
By the way… Onuora, when is Windows 8 going to be released? Do you know about the Microsoft tablets too? I’m really curious to know about that.

  • Rex

I really like it. It fits the new simplistic style they are going for. No matter what the do they will get criticized for it. But I really like the unpretentiousness of this design. Like not a design at all. Good job, I say.
