We can always hope for more surprises, but three will do for now. MWC 2015 is fast approaching, with the anticipated trade fair about to take place in Barcelona from March 2 to 5.
Microsoft will obviously attend the gathering next week.
And the company will apparently bring along a few goodies — with news that at least three new Windows Phone models are set to be unveiled, all of them trying to compete with Android in the budget to midrange segments of the market.
Despite the company’s efforts to keep this a secret, the folks over at AdDuplex have managed to unearth the details of these three new devices.
Some details, at least.
Here are the model numbers in question, with bas hardware specifications for each:
- RM-1062 (RM-1063 for AT&T, with RM-1064, RM-1065, RM-1066, RM-1067 variations) – 5.7-inch screen and a resolution of 720×1280 pixels
- RM-1072 (RM-1073 for AT&T, with RM-1074, RM-1075, RM-1076, RM-1077 variations) – 5-inch screen and a resolution of 720×1280 pixels
- RM-1099– 4-inch screen and a resolution of 480×800 pixels
Looking at the size and resolutions of the displays, it is clear that Microsoft aims to continue its focus on the entry level and midrange segments in order to take on Android devices in emerging markets.
Flagship smartphones are not on the tablet at MWC 2015 for Microsoft.
Unless, of course, Redmond is in the mood for surprises. Intelligence suggests that the company will only release high-end devices running Windows 10 for Phones around fall 2015, when the new mobile operating system is in the final stages of development.
So we have a few months wait, at least, here.
