Word is strong that Microsoft may introduce a new Surface tablet later this month at the BUILD developer conference, but the technology titan continues its efforts to boost sales of the existing models.

This time the company is offering a handy discount for Surface RT buyers in the United Kingdom.

The discount, however, is aimed specifically at the education sector. Students and faculty staff in the United Kingdom can now avail a 10 percent discount for all available models of the device, with or without Touch or Type Covers.

The company explains on the official promotion page:

“This academic offer for eligible students, faculty, and staff requires verification of eligibility prior to purchase. Limit five (5) copies of this item per 12-month period.”

This is obviously an effort to not just boost the sale of the first generation device, but also clear room for the second generation Surface tablets that are set to be unveiled at the BUILD developer conference later this month.

If you are eligible for the discount, the 32GB Surface model with a Touch Cover included in the package retails for £431 (which translates to $675), while the 64GB variant can be had for £503 (amounting to $790) with the 10 percent price cut applied.
