Microsoft now owns Skype

Microsoft announced last Friday that it has completed it’s Skype deal.

British born Skype CEO Tony Bates assumes a new title as president of the Skype – a new business division of Microsoft.

Microsoft’s finalization follows U.S. and EU regulatory approval. “Skype is a phenomenal product and brand that is loved by hundreds of millions of people around the world,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “We look forward to working with the Skype team to create new ways for people to stay connected to family, friends, clients and colleagues — anytime, anywhere.”

Skype currently has 170 million connected users and saw over 207 billion minutes of voice and video conversations in 2010 alone.
