After weeks of speculation and months of wait, Microsoft have officially announced the Lumia Denim rollout which is the latest firmware for its fledgling mobile operating system.
Soon everyone will be rocking Windows 8.1 Update 1.
If all goes well, that is.
Redmond made it official in a post on the Lumia Conversations blog, confirming that this new version will be flying onto select devices in several regions around the globe the following weeks. If this sounds rather abstract, it certainly is.
Mobile updates, of course, depend upon a lot of factor, many of them beyond Microsoft.
However, as noted:
“The Lumia Denim update has started rolling out to a limited number of devices in selected markets, and will continue arriving in waves by device. A wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals.”
As the blog post makes it clear, you do need to have Lumia Cyan deployed on your device to be eligible for this latest version of Windows Phone 8.1.
The company has also listed some of the new features that this firmware version brings to devices like the Lumia 830, 930, Icon and 1520, particularly the camera enhancements. May just tide you as you wait for this staged rollout, which you may get anywhere within the next week to next month.
All depending on the make and model of your smartphone.
