Microsoft Showcases Windows Phone Apps That Work With Cortana

Windows Phone 8.1. Cortana. Indispensable. The number of Windows Phone apps that work with Cortana is slowly but steadily increasing, as both the operating system and the service reach more users.

The newest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS comes with a bucketload of new features, but the digital voice assistant remains the pure and absolute highlight.

Initially available only in the United States, the software titan is slowly launching it in new markets, including key locations like China and the United Kingdom. At the same time, several applications are taking advantage of the new functionalities that Cortana provides.

And Microsoft have just highlighted some of these apps that offer this integration to make for a batter mobile usage experience on the Nokia Conversations blog.

As the post states:

“More and more apps are being developed or updated to work with Cortana, your virtual personal assistant available on Lumia and other phones with Windows Phone 8.1.

They integrate with Cortana’s listening capability so you can ask her to perform tasks within those apps using just your voice. So without further ado, here are just a few of the apps that can be used with Cortana to make your life more productive and enjoyable.”

So the selection?

Things start with Cortrends, move onto the trendy Foursquare, there is also the fan favorite MixRadio, the universally popular Skype, and finally the recently updated Twitter.

The blog post also provides details of these apps that work with Cortana, so you might want to take a look at it. The selection, of course, is small at the moment, but is set for a rapid increase as Windows Phone 8.1 lands on more and more handsets.

All apps that make sense to be in the first generation of Cortana integration. IS the plan to eventually have all the apps integrated with Cortana or will it always be just a select number of them?

Good question. i would imagine that once Cortana is fully functional, all apps and games will have some interaction with Cortana. That’s just a guess, but it makes sense to me.
