It’s remarkable to see just how fast things move when you are not tinkering with the engine every step of the way! The new Chromium Edge browser is proof enough.

Since making the switch, this new flavor of Edge has seen features added to it left right and center.

The browser may still be in public testing, but Microsoft is showing no signs of stopping.

The team behind the browser recently shared some information on upcoming updates and improvements that are coming to Edge in the coming months, while also highlighting many of the change that have already made their way to the browser.

This post in the Tech Community forums for the Edge Insider Program has all the juice, with Microsoft detailing some of the features that it plans to add to the Canary channel in September and October.

Here is the full list:

  • Inking on PDFs.
  • When you sign-in to the browser, your sign-in profile picture will accurately be kept up to date.
  • When you have more than one profile, better handling for opening links and attachments in the appropriate profile.
  • An option to set your own photos as the background image on the New Tab Page.
  • Enable search in the extensions store.
  • A bug fix for users who receive an “Administrator Mode Detected” notification (advising them to close and relaunch the browser in non-administrator mode) each time they launch Edge.
  • ClickOnce deployment of Windows applications from web pages.

Sounds good.

In addition to these, Microsoft says that it is also reviewing a number of feature requests from users, including bringing back some features from the UWP version of Edge.

These include tab previews, the ability to set tabs aside, and a design that better conforms with the Fluent Design System. Support for more themes from the Chrome Web Store, better customizability for the New Tab page, as well as more options for file downloads are also under consideration.

It is still unclear when this new version of Microsoft Edge will officially be released.

Microsoft clearly has some work to do before that big milestone.
