Windows 8.1 build 9471 leaked on Sunday, but now it appears that a new version of in development operating system has been compiled for testing purposes. Windows 8.1 build 9478.
All this are signs that we are getting ever closer to the RTM stage of Windows 8.1.
A post on the Russian website, PCPortal, reveals what seems to be the first image of this new version, which apparently has been compiled to be tested by select Microsoft partners. The technology titan has amped up its efforts to test new builds of the upcoming OS in recent weeks.
No details or specifics are available for the time being, other than the fact that Windows 8.1 has entered the RTM branch. The build number shown in the screenshot is 9478.0.winblue_rtm_130804-1505.
It was reported last week that Microsoft has sent build 9477 of some OEM partners ahead of the final RTM release of the operating system. Judging by the version number of this latest build, this seems more like a version that incorporates the feedback Redmond may have received from its partners.
At this point in time, the RTM version of Windows 8.1 seems to be extremely close to going gold.
And once it does, chances are that the final retail version of the operating system may land in the hands of users in a month or so, as Microsoft is rumored to be planning to speed up general availability.
