When it comes to turn-by-turn navigation in Windows Phone, it pays to be a Nokia user. Up until now, the only free solution was that provided with Nokia handsets. The good news is that is all finally starting to change.

Nokia Drive+ is now out for all Windows Phone 8 handsets in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. That means regardless of the brand, you can get in on the turn-by-turn action.

Here’s what Microsoft’s Michael Stroh had to say about the release:

The app remains in beta as the team fine tunes the customer experience. In the meantime, you can access full turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation, offline maps, speed limit warnings, and conveniences such as day and night modes.

For those that have devices like the HTC 8x, are you happy to finally see this released? As for existing Nokia users, what do you think of Nokia Drive+ versus alternatives out there, including rival services on other platforms like Google Navigation or Apple Maps?
