Best Buy started taking preorders for the Lumia 920 and HTC 8x this weekend. Curiously enough though, they aren’t anymore, at least not for the Nokia Lumia.

Best Buy’s pricing wasn’t bad, a Lumia for $150 on contract, but apparently something has happened that required them to take it down right away. Did they put the 920 out for preorder too early? Did ALL FOUR color variants sell out in less than 24 hours (not that likely… but maybe)? We have no clue or official response about the matter for now.

We do know that the HTC Windows Phone 8 device is still available so this take-down probably has little to do with Microsoft itself. Either AT&T or Nokia stepped in for whatever reason.

According to the information they were given, those who did manage to preorder the Lumia 920 were told it would ship on October 23rd or 24th. This is strange, considering it wasn’t expected to ship until the first week of November.

Odds are this was just another launch error, kind of like when the Surface preorder page went up hours before it was supposed to. Is this going to reappear in a few days or not? The bigger question is whether anyone is interested in the Lumia 920 from AT&T?

I really like the phone but am not that happy to hear it is exclusive to AT&T. The good news is that the Lumia 920 is only locked down to AT&T for the first six months, or so it is speculated. Of course after a half year there might be better options out there from the competition. Anyone planning to preorder the Lumia 920 for AT&T?
