What would a day in the Microsoft world be without at least one news item about Nokia? Arguably Microsoft’s closest partner, the Finnish telecom giant is the driving force behind the recent success of the Windows Phone platform.

And one of the highlights (pun always intended) of Nokia’s triumphs with Microsoft’s mobile platform is the company’s collection of exclusive custom mobile apps that are popular among Lumia owners.

One of Nokia’s strategies to attract customers when it entered the Windows Phone game was to provide users of its smartphones access to exclusive apps.

While Nokia HERE, Nokia Music and Nokia JobLens are some of the more popular choices for Lumia owners, another popular app is Nokia Highlights — which is now rebranded as App Social, though the app still retains most of the features and capabilities that they could previously enjoyed.

The software was designed to help users discover new applications for their handsets, and the recently released beta version of this application enables Windows Phone 8 based Lumia owners the ability to browse through a range of curated collection of software.

Newly added social features allow users to create their own list of applications, and have others follow these collections.

App Social not only shows apps created by Nokia, but also by third-party developers.

As WPCentral notes, the new version of the app is currently only available in 14 countries, but provides a much improved social experience than the previous flavors.

If you are interested in this new release, you can find it on the Windows Phone Store.
