Windows Server 2012, formerly code-named Windows Server 8, is the current release of Windows Server.

It is the server version of Windows 8 and the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2 and became available to customers on September 4, 2012.

New features include:

  • A new version of the task manager (alongside the old)
  • Ability to switch between the GUI and command line interface with reinstalling
  • IP management for managing the IP address space in a corporate network
  • Enhanced Hyper-V capabilities, including network virtualization, multi-tenancy, storage resource pools, cross-premise connectivity, and cloud backup

I found a great video that provides a brief overview of the Windows Server 2012 ‘Metro style’ user interface.

It shows you how to access familiar features using keyboard shortcuts and mouse operation, to help you make the transition to Windows Server 2012. Enjoy!
